I've always dreamed of being a teacher. Both my parents were educators so it must be in the blood! After receiving a BA in American Culture from the University of Michigan, I had a variety of careers from public relations and advertising to owning my own delivery company. I've been teaching in one form or another for over twenty years. The last nine years I've been a substitute teacher specializing in Special Education. I love working children of all ages and backgrounds. In 2011, I decided to return to school to get my Masters in Teaching - Special Education with a major in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
I'm also a wife and mother. My husband Tom and I have been married for almost 24 years! We have three children - Maggie, a senior at Oakland University majoring in Cinema Studies; Sam, a sophomore at Wittenberg University majoring in Sports Management and Accounting/Finance; and Stephen, a senior at Grosse Pointe South who loves playing percussion in the marching band. Maggie was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome when she was 12 and I have had the opportunity to watch her grow and mature as she learned from some incredible teachers. It's been interesting to see the Special Ed process from both sides. This has inspired me to want to be a part of the village for other children especially those with special needs.
